Masters Portfolio
Professional Goals

This Portfolio represents a culmination of two years of work since I entered my masters program at Utah State University. It is my hope and desire to continue to add to this portfolio that represents my best work and practices in the classroom.

Prior to entering the masters program at USU, I was searching for something more that would fulfill my desires to elevate my level of teaching with interactive multimedia and online teacher podcasted lectures. Although I had spent much time searching for quality practices, I lacked direction in how to develop, design, and implement such and idea. When I started searching for a master program hoping to find this missing link within my professional life, I heard about the Masters of Education Instructional Technology Program offered at USU while attending the UCET conference in Salt Lake City. Upon intently listening to the speaker I knew this was where I would seek further education. I am happy to report that the program fulfilled my inner desires. Each class was designed as a snippet of the larger field of Instructional Technology and helped me enhance my current curriculum. I learned everything from the research all the way to developing, designing, and evaluating classroom content. I also learned how to research educational issues and problems within the classroom and for the school as I serve as a member for our accreditation team. As I leave this program, I am once again fulfilled as a professional and am ready to accomplish new goals within my career. The following is a list of things I I hope to accomplish within the next two and five years.

Two year plan

Within the next two years it is my ambition to complete my online classroom website for biology as started in my masters program. Currently four units of instruction have been created including teacher podcasted lectures along with their transcript, videos, simulations, images, worksheets, blogging, and online assessments both for each lesson and for the unit as a whole. Although there are many more units to complete, I would like to start this summer while many of the ideas and strategies are still fresh on my mind.

Five year plan
As biology is not my only prep I teach within a day, I also want to develop, design, and implement a online website for my Anatomy and Physiology class. This is a hard class for a lot of students. If I could place teacher podcasted lectures online, students would have the opportunity to review the information at home again if they need further clarification on a topic. Also, by adding some additional resources such as interactive multimedia, videos, simulations, and images students could have access to more instruction providing them an opportunity to look at the concept in different ways. This would enhance student retention of the information as well as help those students desiring a medical career.

It is my hope that continuing my education experiences will help me advance professionally. I hope to one day become a distance education teacher and teach students located within remote areas who would otherwise not have an opportunity to receive a diverse education.
