Professional Readings:

Clark & Gorski on the Digital Divide

The following articles by Clark and Gorski were very useful and provided me with knowledge, statistics, and examples of the digital divide. I knew that inequalities existed with poor and minority students but I didn't realize the scope of the problem.

Marcy P. Driscoll on Learning Theories

This book laid the foundation for my understanding on the different learning theories. She describes cognitive information processing, learning and schema theory, situated cognition, cognitive and knowledge development, interactional theories, biological theories, motivation and self-regulation, constructivism, and Gagne's theory of instruction.
What was most useful to me was the examples and applications of each theory .

Copyright Laws and Fair Use
The following articles provided me a better understanding of the copyright and fair use laws.    As the number of distance education courses increases, so too must the knowledge of copyright laws especially by the instructors who teach these courses.  If violated, teachers could face serious consequences such as legal fees, loss of job, and/or prison time.

Paulo Freire
As Paulo Freire inspired and motive me professionally, I have included links to his work and images. His commitment and courage to press forward teaching the poor and oppressed stands out in the field of education.

Research Project Evaluations
This website was valuable and very helpful in guiding professionals in the design, conduct, documentation, and evaluation of research projects. This website provided examples and instruments that teachers could use within specific content areas. There are also professional development modules that help assist with any questions one may have while developing a research project.

Issues in Distance Education
As distance education is a passion of mine, the following articles serve as a good reference and resource learning and understanding all of its issues and problems. Problems include but not limited to copyright laws, cost to initiate and maintain distance programs, evaluation methods to access student learning within an distance education program, workload on faculty, how technology based programs affect the different gender, international obstacles to obtain and need distant education programs, intellectual property, and open courseware.
